A Different Christmas in Rouyn-Noranda: the Congolese community brings Abitibi-Témiscamingue to life

On December 25, 2025, the Congolese community of Abitibi-Témiscamingue gathered in Rouyn-Noranda for a Christmas celebration rooted in sharing, inclusion and human warmth.

A lively and inclusive community Christmas

Families, children, seniors, friends and community allies came together for a celebration where everyone belonged. The gathering made Christmas a space for solidarity, memory and collective joy.

Culture, music and fellowship

Children’s laughter, music, intergenerational conversations and familiar flavours shaped the day. The celebration also introduced other Rouyn-Noranda communities to the richness of Congolese culture.

Building community far from one’s roots

The event strengthened belonging and showed the community’s ability to bring people together. African traditions and the holiday spirit met in an authentic celebration open to the region and focused on the future.
